Inspired by an weapon??carved by local, Missouri Native Americans, the painting depicts an Osage gunstock club, circa 1750-1775. This club??was used in hand-to-hand combat. Although small, its weight and balance would have aided a veteran warrior to quickly dispatch an opponent. The lightening bolt design of the serrated edges at the top and bottom is symbolic of deadly speed.
