Thomas Hart Benton’s wife,??Rita handled all business matters freeing the artist to create works in his studio behind the house. Many buyers came to the front door, hat in hand hoping to purchase paintings from the famous Regionalist. Rita allowed that this might be possible with one stipulation; that the buyer must pay in monthly installments and not in full. This gave the couple a steady income throughout the rest of Benton???s productive years.
